Prevention services are evidence-based programs and supports designed to help families avoid child abuse, neglect, and foster care placement by addressing risk factors and building protective factors.

Prevention services aim to:

• Prevent maltreatment before it occurs
• Strengthen families so they can meet children’s needs
• Reduce family separation and unnecessary removal of children from their homes
• Promote children’s well-being by connecting them to community resources

Our programs enhance parenting skills and support in child welfare and social services. We also train and support our communities to recognize and act on signs of abuse, ensuring early intervention and better child safety. Through our work, we raise awareness about child development and youth programs, building a supportive community.

• In-home parent skill-building programs (examples include parenting education, child development training, etc.)
• Mental health and substance abuse prevention for children and youth
• Economic and concrete supports to reduce poverty-related stress
• Cultural and community-based programs that strengthen family identity and social support
• Two-generation approaches that support both children and parents to address systemic barriers
