Parenting comes with challenges, and having the right support can make all the difference. Each year, the All For Kids Home Visiting Program in Orange County provides personalized guidance, parenting tools, and essential resources to 349 parents and caregivers—positively impacting 391 young children through one-on-one visits with a Family Support Counselor (FSC).
When Destiny was referred to the program through her CalWORKs worker, she was balancing the demands of raising four young sons while preparing to re-enter the workforce. From the start, she found reassurance in the blended approach of in-person and virtual visits, hands-on parenting activities, and a welcoming community of other parents.
“All For Kids has been a huge help in making my parenting challenges easier to understand,” she shares. “The parent handouts, activities, and support from my FSC, Vanessa, have been empowering.”
Beyond parenting guidance, the Home Visiting Program provided tangible support that eased financial stress for Destiny’s family. She received baby-proofing supplies, diapers, food, clothing, books, educational toys, and referrals to additional community resources. Through a referral to Oak View Resource Center, her teenager received a bed frame, dresser, and bedding, helping create a stable and comfortable home environment.
One of the biggest challenges Destiny and her husband faced was creating a safe sleep space for their growing baby. Thanks to All For Kids’ Safe Sleep Grant, they received the help they needed. “Before this grant, we struggled to find the right sleeping space,” she explains. “Now, I can rest easy knowing my baby is safe and comfortable.”
The program’s impact extends beyond resources. After bringing home her NICU baby, Destiny felt overwhelmed. Balancing life as a mom of multiples—including a newborn—was exhausting. Weekly visits with Vanessa became a steady source of reassurance and encouragement. “She helped me track my baby’s milestones, navigate postpartum, and manage the stress of caring for my boys,” she reflects. “Having that guidance, encouragement, and just someone to talk to has made all the difference. I can’t believe it’s been over a year—today, I’m more confident than when I first started.”
She’s not alone—96 percent of parents who participated in our program reported increased knowledge of parenting and child development. Equipped with new skills and support, Destiny is now setting new goals, including preparing for her pharmaceutical state board exam. With the right support, she’s not just managing—she’s thriving.
