Insights from Ruth Martinez-Sosa

In a recent #BlueandYouChat on X (formerly Twitter), we engaged with Ruth Martinez-Sosa, the Program Supervisor of Healthy Families America at our Antelope Valley sites. With 16 years of experience working with children and families, and nearly 12 years with All For Kids, Ruth shared valuable insights into the HFA program.

All For Kids: How can our upbringing influence the person/parent we become?

Ruth Martinez-Sosa: Our childhood experiences shape our brain chemistry, influencing how we react and interact. However, with early intervention and prevention programs, positive change is possible.

All For Kids: What are some common challenges parents face with their children, and where do you look for support to overcome those challenges?

Ruth Martinez-Sosa: Challenges like tantrums, talking back, and pre-teen attitudes can be overwhelming. Personally, I rely on a supportive network of family, friends, and my church community. Additionally, parent support groups offer invaluable assistance.

All For Kids: How does Healthy Families America help prepare families for parenthood?

Ruth Martinez-Sosa: HFA offers prenatal services to educate families about fetal development and prepare for the baby’s arrival. We connect them with resources, including essential baby items and breastfeeding support.

All For Kids: How does HFA promote parent-child bonding?

Ruth Martinez-Sosa: We encourage activities like reading, playing, and singing. Our services also include breastfeeding support, infant massage, parent education, child development assessments, and maternal depression screenings.
