Taking care of Valley families -Children’s Bureau cuts ribbon for new facility

PALMDALE — Hundreds of people turned out Saturday morning to celebrate the grand opening of Children’s Bureau of Southern California’s new Family Resource Center in Palmdale.

The 27,368 square-foot facility is at the site of the former Mulligan Family Fun Center off Rancho Vista Boulevard (Avenue P) near Lowe’s.

The ribbon-cutting event included dignitaries, community leaders and partners, parents and children. There were guided tours of the building, a food demonstration by celebrity chef Nyesha Arrington, book reading by Children’s Bureau President and CEO Ron Brown, fun and games for children on the sports court and food vendors.
Children’s Bureau has been working in the Antelope Valley for nearly 30 years, starting with foster care and adoptions work.

“While we’ve endeavored to add a variety of services starting with mental health just after 2000, the need has vastly outgrown the capacity at all levels of service,” Brown said at the start of the ceremony.

The new Family Resource Center will offer Children’s Bureau programs and services including child abuse prevention programs, an array of behavioral health services, foster care and adoption services along with various community outreach efforts, resource sharing and resident leadership engagement opportunities. There is also a community partners wing that will house the Specialized Foster Care Division of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Antelope Valley Partners for Health and Project Joy are also expected to have offices at the building.
