Huntington Beach News | Children’s Bureau Offers Virtual Programs for Families in Orange County During Child Abuse Prevention Month

HUNTINGTON BEACH            Children’s Bureau, a nonprofit leader in the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect in Southern California, is delivering virtual family support services in Orange County, as well as special virtual events throughout April’s Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the agency has been operating fully remote with most programs and services continuing through virtual platforms.

Children’s Bureau believes that child development is community development and through their innovative prevention and treatment services they provide parents with the support, tools, and resources they need to raise happy and healthy children.

“Primary Prevention is about supporting the well-being of community, families, and children. It is about a parent’s understanding of their child’s development. It’s making sure children strengthen their social and emotional skills,” shared Senior Director of Prevention Jose Ramos. “It’s about connecting families to community resources to live comfortably and connecting them to each other for support and encouragement and strengthening the overall community.”

Throughout Orange County, 77% of families qualify as low-income. Through its Orange County offices and Family Resource Centers, Children’s Bureau reaches more than 14,000 of these children and parents annually.

In observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Corbin and Oak View Family Resource Centers will be hosting a virtual family bonding event on Monday, April 26th from 5pm – 7pm with games, activities, and information on the family resources available. The event is free for Orange County residents. To register call (714) 480-3737 for the Corbin Resource Center, or (714) 842-4002 for the Oak View Resource Center.

Ongoing services provided in Orange County include, but are not limited to:

  • Family Resource Centers
  • Family Stabilization Program
  • Infant and Toddler Maternal Child Health Home Visitation
  • Early Years Emotional Wellness and School Readiness Program
  • Mental Health Services

This April and beyond, Children’s Bureau invites the public to take action and sign up for services, refer families that could benefit, or raise funds that will go directly towards helping Children’s Bureau continue its mission of protecting vulnerable children.
