A Social Worker’s Role in the Community

Social workers play a crucial role in helping marginalized communities and furthering All For Kids’ mission. The field is defined as an academic discipline and profession that focuses on individuals, families, groups, and communities to enhance social functioning and well-being.

Social workers are essential in the workforce. Their background allows them to assess systems and determine improvements to better meet people’s basic needs, focusing on the needs and empowerment of vulnerable, oppressed, and impoverished individuals.

What is a Social Worker?

Social workers are found in schools, hospitals, churches, government jobs, prisons, youth camps, nursing homes, veterans’ programs, and more areas. At All For Kids, the Chief Program Officer, Director of Prevention, and many others are licensed clinical social workers.

As social workers, their goal in these roles is to address systemic injustices and ensure all voices are heard. In roles like Domestic Violence Counselors, they work directly with families and equip them with skills to support their children’s well-being. In roles like Housing Assistance Agents or Hospital Administrators, they connect families to resources and reduce the effects of isolation and poverty.

Social Work Services at All For Kids

All For Kids social workers offer services through 22 prevention programs ranging from Mental Health and Family Enrichment to an LAUSD Preschool. Some programs are home-based, where social workers visit homes to help parents with skill-building and counseling. Others are center-based, where families receive services at our family resource centers.

We offer social work services to families in need. When they enter a program, managers will assess their needs and offer the most beneficial services. The goal is to prevent child abuse. However, if a child has been abused and is under a social worker’s care, it’s their responsibility to advocate for resources, treatment, and funding.
